I Love You: A stupid, pretentiously arty journal of the relationship between Braga and Pereio, each of whom tries to exploit the other. Sonia, nonetheless, is pleasant to check out. Cuban Rebel Girls: This is Flynn’s last film, and is an embarrassment. Playing himself, he assists Fidel Castro in his overthrow of Batista. The film is filmed on location throughout the Castro rebellion. Of interest only to see Flynn teamed with his very last lady friend, sixteen-year-old Aadland. Cast includes Errol Flynn, Beverly Aadland, John McKay, and Marie Edmund. (68 minutes, 1959)
Alice in the Cities: After drifting haphazardly across America, disassociated reporter Vogler meets a lady and finds himself saddled with her nine year old baby girl while she mysteriously vanishes. The brilliant, often spellbinding film reflects on the consequence of American pop lifestyle on postwar Europeans. Cast includes Rudiger Vogler, Yella Rottlander, Lisa Kreuzer, and Chuck Berry. (110 minutes, 1974)
Representative Cody Banks: A geeky, shy fifteen year old (Muniz) who is secretly a junior spy for the CIA is designated to befriend the cute daughter of a scientist building a secret weapon for a wicked organization. This fun filled, big spoof mix of Bond, Spy Kids, and Men in Black as an adolescent boy’s fantasy materializes. It is bundled with hot babes, cool automobiles, intense games action, and high tech devices galore. Cast includes Frankie Muniz, Hilary Duff, Angie Harmon, Keith David, Ian McShane, Arnold Vosloo, Cynthia Stevenson, Daniel Roebuck, Darrell Hammond, and Martin Donovan. (102 minutes, 2003)
Airmail: A daring tale of pioneer airmail guides supercharged by fine aerial scenes and excellent cast. A first rate film. Cast includes Pat O’Brien, Ralph Bellamy, Russell Hopton, Thin Summerville, Frank Albertson, and Gloria Stuart. (83 minutes, 1932)
Thief of Baghdad: Reeves looks for the elusive blue rose so he can wed the Sultan’s daughter. This is nothing like the Sabu rendition, although this is a good piece of work. Cast includes Steve Reeves, Giorgia Moll, Arturo Dominici, and Edy Vessel. (90 minutes, 1961)
De-Lovely: Handsome however strange biopic of the incredible songwriter Cole Porter, whose love for his spouse didn’t preclude him from chasing homosexual affairs. Kline is much more interesting than the film as the scene in which he instructs Barrowman how to harmonize “Night and Day” shows. Cast includes Kevin Kline, Ashley Judd, Jonathan Pryce, Kevin McNally, Allan Corduner, Sandra Nelson, Keith Allen, James Wilby, John Barrowman, Kevin McKidd, Peter Polycarpou, and Richard Dillane. (125 minutes, 2004)
The Pajama Game: This is an adaptation of the Broadway musical hit with much of its cast intact essentially interprets the word “exuberance.” Day is a pleasure as the head of a plant complaint agency that impulsively falls in love with the new foreman (Raitt, in his only featuring film). Richard Adler and Jerry Ross’ melodies contain “Hey, There.” Dancer Haney stands out in her “Mist Heat” characteristic and in the lively “Once a Year Night” barbeque number. Cast includes Doris Day, John Raitt, Carol Haney, Eddie Foy, Jr., Barbara Nichols, and Reta Shaw. (101 minutes, 1957)
Believe in me: Yet another 1970s film that all about drug problems. Working gal Bisset finds that she has become completely dependent on speed while living in the East Village section of New York City. Cast includes Michael Sarrazin, Jacqueline Bisset, Jon Cypher, Allen Garfield, and Kurt Dodenhoff. (90 minutes, 1971)
