Have you ever been wondering whether your site pages are search engine friendly?
If yes, then have you spend some little time figuring it out how well your site coded and does it follow all the necessary rules of SEO?
You see…
I kind of understand when you feel said to yourself ‘why I don’t have anyone visiting my site’ because I went t through all that before. You need to understand that there is no point in building a website unless there are visitors coming in. Period!
Everyone knows that a major source of traffic for most sites on the Internet is search engines like Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Altavista, Exact Seek, Ask.com, and so on. Therefore, by designing a search engine friendly site, optimize it for SEO purpose, your site will be able to rank easily in search engines and obtain more visitors.
Any major search engines are using some programs called crawlers or robots to index websites to list on their search result pages. So, what they will do is follow links to a page, reads the content of the page and record it in their own database, pulling up the listing as people search for it. This is the basic step of crawlers or robots.
One of the best ways to be indexed easily by the search engines is you should stay away from using frames on your website.
Why not frames?
Simple it will create confusion.
Most of the sites still yet to be indexed in simply because the robots or the crawlers get confused. And it is all caused by frames, that’s the main reason search engine robots get confused and they will abandon your site because of that. Furthermore, frames make it complicated for users to bookmark a particular page on your site without using long, complicated scripts.
Many business owners like to use a fancy flash site. Unless if you not focusing expanding your business or the site is just to show others that you also have a website then you can ignore what I want to explain below.
Avoid flash site. Do not present important information in Flash movies or in images.
Why?
You see… Search engine crawlers or robots can only read text on your source code so if you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than textual form, your search engine ranking will be affected significantly.
Use Meta tags properly on each and every page of your site so that search engine crawlers or robots know at first glance what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it. By using Meta tags, you are making the search engine robot’s job easier so they will crawl and index your site more frequently.
If you can afford to pay professional to do then you can also on your own but of course the results will take some time to get proper results and it won’t be as good as the professional. In the case you want to do on your own, first do the basic properly first and then slowly enhance it. Without getting the foundation right there is no point you struggling doing other things.
You should also avoid using wrong HTML tags like <font> to style your page. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. By using CSS, you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load.
So that’s all for now, hopefully some of the SEO tips above will at least give you some basic guidance on what to do and not to do. By now you should at least understand why you need a search engine friendly page.
Cheers!
