If you can remember as far back as when there were no mobile phones then you probably think that people were more sociable then. Friends actually used to go out together and spend time talking to each other and more importantly listening to each other. But the fact that people have become too busy texting all the time or using certain applications on their mobile phone means that they only half listen to each other. It is so annoying when you try and have a conversation with somebody and they keep on stopping to answer their phone or send a text. It just tends to lead to superficial conversations because they really can’t get going properly .
In fact having a proper conversation with a real flesh and blood human is probably something that many people today have never actually had. And although we seem to be spending more time communicating with others these days, we are not really saying anything with any real meaning. The fact that we spend so much time leaving comments on Facebook, emailing each other or sending texts means that we never have enough time to get into a deep conversation with anyone. These days we tend to chat to other people in the same way that we would on Twitter; our conversations tend to be quite shallow.
Imagining where this is all heading is quite difficult. Who knows, we could see the end of verbal communication completely because it is replaced by texting. It might already be happening because there are times when people who are in the same room will be texting each other. It seems a shame that the mobile phone which was supposed to make us all feel a bit closer to each other has had the opposite effect on a number of people. It sometimes feels that nobody really is listening to anyone and we are all just thinking about what we are going to write on our next text. Although we spend a lot of time sending information out from us, we don’t really pay attention to anything so there is not much that comes back to us.
